The PORTER-CABLE 20V MAX Impact Driver Kit uses a brushless motor to deliver 50% more runtime than brushed models. It also provides a powerful performance by giving 2,700rpms and 1,400in-lbs of max torque for all kinds of fastening applications. Its ergonomic design also makes it 14% shorter in length than the previous model, and its quick-change chuck makes it easy to do one-handed bit changes. Included in this package are PCC647 Impact Driver, (2) PCC680L 20V MAX Lithium-Ion Batteries, (1) PCC699L Charger, and (1) Screwdriving Bit.
The Bad
Despite its best attempt at providing us with the perfect impact driver, the PORTER-CABLE 20V MAX Impact Driver Kit still manages to get customer complaints. One such flaw it has is how the units can overheat after a short period — this may be applicable to the brushless models. It overheats even with easy jobs such as installing lag bolts or long screws, which can become quite a troublesome tool when you try to use it for extended periods.
The Bottom Line
The PORTER-CABLE 20V MAX Impact Driver Kit would’ve been a cut above the rest if it wasn’t for its overheating and possible overpricing. For a product that can overheat to the point that it permanently shuts down, its $100 price tag may be a bit too much, especially when other products do just as well for much less. But even with its flaws, this tool is still one of the best impact drivers for 2019, and it is still at the top of the market.
