Our review of the Prescitech X12 AC1200 WiFi Extender put this Wi-Fi extender through its paces. Let’s take a look at some of the best features of the Prescitech X12 AC1200 WiFi Extender…
Superior and Stronger WiFi:
The Prescitech X12 AC1200 WiFi Extender boosts your existing WiFi coverage throughout your home while extending wireless networks to hard-to-reach areas. It eliminates buffering and dead zones; it’s also compatible with Alexa devices. The X12’s WiFi reaches much farther outside the home for more stable and stronger wireless connections, so you can enjoy fast WiFi wherever you want.
Wired and Wireless Connections:
Simultaneous AC1200 dual-band signals give speeds of up to 900Mbps on 5GHz or 300Mbps on 2.4GHz for the ideal online gaming and streaming experience while letting all your devices connect to the network at the same time without interruption. Its Ethernet port connects a wired device to your network at incredible speeds, and its access point mode quickly turns your wired internet connection into a dual-band Wi-Fi network.
Quick and Simple:
The Prescitech X12 AC1200 WiFi Extender is an easy way to expand your wireless coverage at the push of a button or by using its browser-based setup. You can set it up even if you’re not tech-savvy, log in to the page that pops up automatically — no need to input long IPs! Lastly, its Smart Indicator helps you find the best location for optimal WiFi coverage.
The Prescitech X12 AC1200 WiFi Extender isn’t able to perfect its craft and doesn’t fulfill its promise of a quick and easy setup. Its instructions aren’t obvious, and you may have to fill in the blanks. But the biggest problem is how a unit wouldn’t recognize a password that had been set up by the customer — as it may have been a reject sent back to the company that they resold to the next customer without checking.
Other problems include the company’s fishy 800 phone number for an answering machine that doesn’t answer with the company name. Even scarier is how its firmware update can wreak havoc on your device, as its firmware binary files are easily corrupted when downloading to your computer. Unfortunately, for one customer, the firmware update didn’t check that the file was valid and had installed an update that destroyed their laptop.
